Cellular Agriculture Course

In Spring 2022, UNC will be offering its first alt protein course, The Cellular Agriculture Revolution! The Chapel Hill Alt Protein Project spent the 2020-21 school year organizing and developing the course and are incredibly excited to have UNC educate its students about this world-changing field. The course will be taught by UNC professors Douglas PhanstielAndrew Gladden, and Alan Jones, as well as guest speakers from the alt protein field located both locally in NC and nationally. Our hope is for alt protein STEM education to be a norm at universities across the world, and that our course can act as a blueprint for others. By building alt protein courses we can build a talent pipeline so this industry can flourish now and in the future. Click on the image on the left to check out the syllabus for more info.

NC State Course

We do outreach to surrounding universities in the Research Triangle Area to broaden our impact and spur alt protein curriculum development and research within those universities. We influenced professors at NC State to kickstart the first formal alt protein curriculum offered in the state, a short course called The Alternative Protein Revolution and its Business Opportunities.

Introductory Alt Protein Fellowship

Alongside the Alt Protein Project chapters at Brown University and Johns Hopkins University, we co-founded and have created a virtual, international introductory fellowship for anyone looking to meet others in the field and learn fundamental topics. Our first cohort ran over the summer with over 50 people from across the world. We will be running another cohort this fall.

NC Alt Protein Meetups

In the 2020-21 school year, we hosted three virtual NC Alt Protein meetups for entrepreneurs, scientists, investors, students and other stakeholders in the alt protein industry within the state. These meetups offer space for the field to build community, network, and brainstorm how to build a stronger landscape for alt protein in the state.

Student Engagement

We had 4 webinars and recruited over 100 students to join our listserv. Our leadership board has 8 members and is looking to expand.
