Long Term Initiatives
2024 Initiatives
Increase Curriculum
By engaging with professors that teach courses related to alt. protein innovation or impact, we plan to increase the curriculum about alt. protein in relevant courses. In the Spring Semester of 2024 we helped facilitate the third successful semester of the Cellular Agriculture Revolution in the UNC Biology Department.
Host Speaker Events
Hosting events to bring in some of the world’s greatest scientists, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and thinkers will get our peers and professors interested in advancing alternative protein to make the world a better place.
Increase Dialogue
We strive to get faculty and peers excited about the opportunities associated with plant-based, cultivated, and fermentation-derived protein, and the unresolved questions this space faces that our institution can help solve.
Establish Courses
By engaging with administration, we will work to establish new courses devoted to alternative protein and require the inclusion of alternative protein in the core curriculum of relevant majors.
Research Triangle
We are working to make the Research Triangle the next hub for alternative protein by collaborating with fellow universities and stakeholders in the Research Triangle in North Carolina.
Advance Research
We plan to engage with professors at UNC in relevant disciplines to ask if they can take on an alt protein related research project. We will also provide them with opportunities for grants.
Establish Research Center
Establishing an alternative protein science and innovation center (such as the Alt.Meat Lab at UC Berkeley) would propel UNC to the forefront of alt protein innovation.
